Light the Fire Within

Before the start of each Olympics, it is tradition to carry the Olympic Flame from Olympia, Greece (where the Ancient Olympic Games took place) to the host city. In 2002, the flame was carried from Olympia, Greece to Salt Lake City, Utah with the theme of "Light the Fire Within"

The theme was illustrated perfectly during the Olympic Torch Relay, when the torch passed from person to person by lighting the fire of the torch. Just like the passing of the torch from one person to another, each day we have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of those we meet. The Olympic Flame also reminds us to rise to our potential, carry our flame, and make our mark in this world. As we carry our flame high and rise up, we light the way for those that come behind.
